Released in 1994 and replacing the 80, the Audi A4 has since passed more than 7.5 million copies in the world, which is undoubtedly a success and continues unabated over the years. This new vintage is indeed noticed from the front, with headlights that lose their notches on the inside and gain a new light signature formed by vertical bars, and a hood extended to compensate for a grille more plucked but generously enlarged . The evolution continues on the flanks, with wings more marked, especially visible in the back, Quattro Sport way of the 80s, to come to end at the back, with a chrome strip connecting the two lights.
Inside, however, is the quasi-status quo. The dashboard keeps the same design but the most attentive will notice the disappearance of the adjustment wheel of the multimedia system in favor of a convenient storage, as well as the appearance of a new central screen of 10.1 inches of series from the first level of finishing. The roominess remains the same, two adults can comfortably sit at the back with a third to make the splits above the imposing transmission tunnel, while the trunk still offers a generous – compared to its competitors – loading volume to 480 liters.
Audi has not been idle under the hood and almost all of the engines offered win a handful of horses with the transition to the new house nomenclature, with three petrol from 150 to 245 hp and four diesel from 122 to 231 hp. And even up to 347 hp if you count the sporty S4 which, yes, it's not a rumor, goes to the dark side of the Force now feeding on diesel. But the most notable novelty is the arrival of microhybridization MHEV on all engines unleaded and the two TDI entry-level. It is a 12V system consisting of an alternator that is responsible for recovering energy at deceleration, store it in a small lithium ion battery located under the floor of the trunk, before returning it to acceleration or on the phases of freewheeling possible between 55 and 160 km / h. Audi announces a decrease in consumption of about 0.3 l / 100 km.
The middle passenger in the back will not know what to do with his feet but he will have, like the others, room for his luggage in the trunk.
With the exception of the 35 TFSI 150 hp that can receive a six-speed manual gearbox and the 231 hp 45 TDI equipped with a Tiptronic 8 torque converter gearbox, all other versions benefit from the dual-clutch transmission. seven standard S tronic 7 gears. As for the famous all-wheel drive Quattro, it is mounted automatically on the 45 TFSI of 245 hp and the 45 TDI and left to choose for 40 TDI 190 hp.
Sold at a starting price of € 33,600, just a few hundred euros more than before the restyling, this Audi A4 fifth name revised and corrected continues to be less expensive than its compatriots. It will be necessary to pay a minimum of 38 700 € for a 30 TDI 163 hp S tronic 7, the version which will undoubtedly have the greatest success, while it is necessary to pay at least 41 000 € for a BMW 318 dA 150 hp and 41 900 € for a Mercedes C180d 122 ch 9G-Tronic.
